Been a long time

Sorry it's been so long...I just can't seem to catch up. These are the 3 dolls that are in the newest issue of Prims. Humpty Dumpty and the rabbit were created using an egg shaped body and are in the article "The Egg Came First"

Uncle Sam is a very patriotic soul. I live less than a mile from a country bicycle trail created on an old railroad line. It connect to Wisconsin state bicycle trails so it seemed fitting that Sam should be riding a bicycle. All 3 are cloth dolls. Sam has a wire armature inside his body.

These were featured with 2 other scarecrows. The pattern for the little one is in the magazine.

Tips, Tricks and ideas for new dolls

The Old Farmhouse Gathering has reprinted a tutorial of doll making tips and tricks that can also be found on my website Lucy's Lazy Dayz Primitives. There are navigation buttons in the sidebar on the left of my website that lead you to the tutorials.

I'm working hard making new Raggedies. The two above are found on my website but my Etsy shops have different dolls. I like variety.  

Large brown Easter wool rag doll girl rabbit

Rebecca is just adorable. She's large, 29" tall, with BIG 7" long feet with needle sculpted toes. Those cheeks are soft and squishy textured fabric.

You'll also find a boy in green corduroy bib overalls as well as another dressed-up in his Easter finery in the same shoppe.

Primitive rabbit Hiram Hare is a 29" tall rabbit made from a vintage wool blanket. His corduroy pants used to be a corduroy shirt. I've just listed him in my ETSY SHOP where you'll find more photos that show just how special he is. His eyes are applique'd, painted and have button iris/pupil stitched in place. I also added a painted highlight dot.  The nose is a small triangle shaped pillow of light brown ultrasuede detailed with painted shading and hightlight. He comes with the fabric carrot shown in the photo.

Meet Robbie and Rupert

 Robbie Rabbit (on the left) is a new addition to my WEBSITE . He's made of clean recycled wool and is 29" of adorable. His cheeks are stitched in place, his nose is brown faux suede that was shaded with paint and also stitched in place. His eyes are stitched on then shaded with paints. The iris/pupil is a button.
   His coat is wool with vintage buttons. The pants fabric that looks like burlap. He even has a gray wool tail.

Rupert Rabbit  (on the right) is very large at 36" (sits 20" high in a child's chair or on a bench). and he's now available in my ETSY SHOPPE. He's made of the same wool coat. (I love things made from real wool. It has such a great feel). He wears olive green corduroy pants (with a tail) and his jacket is olive green and black herringbone twill tweed wool. He has 3 olive shaded vintage buttons stitched to the front. His felt hat has a hatband that matches his jacket and a handmade carrot stitched where the hat band overlaps. His features sewn and painted the same way I did Robbie's.

New Large Primitive Black Wool Rabbit

Robert is a large 35 inch tall rabbit made of fabric recycled from a black wool winter coat. His wool hat was formerly a blazer and the pants were a pair of women's pants. Oh yes, the buttons are from a coat. He sits 21 inches high.
     The fabrics are all clean and he's stuffed with mostly polyester fiberfill but there's fabric trimming in his butt to help him sit so nicely.
   His eyes are painted cotton hand stitched in place. I painted the edges and used brown pastels to shade the inner edge of his eye. I stitched a button in the middle

New Snow Girl dolls

Not exactly primitive but these dolls are so sweet and the perfect accents for more modern winter decor. I've just listed these 2 and more on my website .

Father Time's Obsession

    My beautiful Father Time was published in the Show & Tell section of the Nov/Dec/Jan 2014 Art Doll Quarterly. I'm so pleased and honored.
     He was a joy to make using many new techniques I've been experimenting with. The watch faces have epoxy coatings to hold the hands in place. The robe is stiff as a board. His hands and head were completely painted after the needle sculpting was finished.

cranfest weekend festivities at The Grainery

The Grainery will also be open with extended hours for Cranfest. Sandy will have the doors open at 9am Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-28 and she will close about 7pm all three nights.....if you are on your way back from Cranfest and want to stop, give her a call and she will stay open a bit later if you need her to. She will also open up on Sunday by Appointment if need be. If you have never been to The Grainery, it is soooo worth the stop! It is a primitive out building filled with handmade crafts. Sandy has her Folk Art paintings there along with handmade treasures from Lucys Lazy Dayz Primitives and items from us, Kindred Spirit Primitives. It is located 2 miles south of Tomah on Hwy 131. Turn Left on Hilldale Ave..... it's just a few feet up the road on the left. Stop out if you have the time! If you have questions, call Sandy at 608-387-3279   or Cheryl at 608-387-1541.

Fall is here...scarecrows are here too

    I've been very busy finishing new scarecrows. You can find them on my website . They are listed under What's new and come in 3 sizes: 18" tall, 26" tall and 35" tall. They're made of fabric with rag stuffed bodies so they sit well. They all have a generous quantity of raffia spilling from sleeves and pant legs as well as raffia hair. The handmade hats are stiffened burlap. The pants are denim.
    The faces are hand embroidered with hand applique'd noses and blushed cheeks. Each scarecrow has something to hold. One has a handmade painted fabric pumpkin, another has a handmade cloth crow and the large one captured a huge handmade crow that's trying to fly away. They're designed to be indoor decorations (or at least in a sheltered area) but I've heard from customers who've kept them outdoors and not protected and they are just fine (I don't advise that...I'm just passing along what I've been told).

I've been published in Prims magazine.  There are so many very talented people are in the issue and it's such an honor to be included. You'll find stories about my Vintage inspired Santas as well as another story about some of my witches.

The scarecrows are coming

 Scarecrows are being listed as quickly as I can make them. These are so cute. 18" tall and made of fabric with lots of lovely shredded raffia, they have embroidered features. The scarecrow on the left is all muslin with orange blushed cheeks and a handmade crow. The one on the right has a head made from a fabric that looks like miniature burlap and holds a handmade pumpkin with a real stem. They are available on my website, Lucy's Lazy Dayz Primitives. I've given the link to the Halloween section.

New Witchy dolls

 I've been playing with new ideas. You see more and more white and odd colored pumpkins in the farmer's markets and that inspired the witch on the left. She's 29" tall and very elegant. Her features were hand stitched in place with fine black thread and it looks like hairs or bits of cobweb in a close up view.      The witchy woman on the right was inspired by some scraps of black and brown fabric that landed in the same pile after I cut out something else. they looked so nice together, they inspired a black witch dressed in black and brown. Both of these and more are listed on my website under Halloween.  

New Listings for Fall

This is Scarlet O'haira. She's the new listing on my Lucy's Lazy Dayz Folk Art Etsy Shoppe.

I've made her to stand by constructing her with dowels inside her legs.  She's made of fabric and has a needle sculpted nose and body and her eyes and lips are "painted" with Prismacolor pencils. She looks a bit frazzled with her silky, stringy red hair. Her hat is adorned with black fabric roses and she carries a handmade broom...made of miniature pip berry twigs so it's not going to break.

Shelley Jean Meyer, The finished doll shown at the left, is just one of many new listings on my website. I've also added rabbits, cats, and Halloween creations.

I've finally finished the pattern for Colin Creep. This is a wonderful 10" jack o'lantern with 15" vine arms. His fingers are wired and can be twisted and bent to help him hold things. You'll find him available as either epattern or mailed paper pattern on Lucy's Lazy Dayz Primitives.

If you click on the WHAT'S NEW button in the left column, you'll find a couple more new patterns and new finished dolls.

New offerings on The Prim Nest

 I've listed these two offerings on The Prim Nest. The rabbit on the left is made of cotton flannel and is standing on a piece of a vintage farm table that literally fell apart from use and abuse. He stands thanks to supports inside his legs. He's as sweet as he can be with his bag of carrots. This is a OOAK.
   The cat is nearly life size and weighted so it might hold a light door. My mother purchased the fabric in the late 1960's to reupholster a vintage sofa and chair and this was a leftover. The tummy is wool from a thrift store skirt. Her (?) face is hand embroidered with button eyes and sisal whiskers.

New Rabbit at The Red Geranium

38" tall Chef Hase is now at The Red Geranium Framing & Gifts in Mauston Wisconsin.

I created him from a wool cape I found in a thrift store. After a good laundering, it had great texture and just made me think RABBIT. If you wonder about his name, it's the German word for rabbit. I'm sure you've heard of hassenpfeffer which is rabbit stew. This chef isn't in the stew, he's making it!

His hat and coat are entirely authentic and he has his wire whisk ready to use!
